My sons' ktm 65 has oil in the coolant. It seeps in slowly over several rides. I pulled the water pump cover off and the seal looks good. I ran it for a few second to see if some oil seeped out and there was nothing. When I took the rad cap off the coolant shot out a few inches from the radiator but i don't know how much of that is normal. My idea is that its the head gasket. My question is, could it be anything other than the head gasket or pump seal?
btw there is no coolant in the oil

Thats my guess..The Head gasket.. The pressure you saw was the compression of the cylinder and oil pumping up into the rads.
Not sure on those little yeppers if there is a bleeder screw on the head to bleed air out of the rads when redoing the gasket.
The top of the piston should be clean..lol

I second the head gasket. It's probably premix oil you are seeing in the antifreeze.
there is usually a weep hole between the oil side and the coolent side of the pump seal, so it's pretty rare that the two would mix.

this is a tough one to see. when mine leaked, the seal looked good. I replaced it and all was better. Try replacing it and see what happens.
OR,
You could just give it to me!

Jim,
Why would you want oil contaminated Antifreeze ??

Good one Carl, had to read it a couple times!

Sounds like head gasket to me, too. When the water pump seal is shot, you usually have coolant in the trans fluid, since the pressure in the cooling system is higher than in the trans.

OK but if it's not the head gasket I'm gonna be sooo angry at you guys.......Just kidding

I was talking to a fellow club member about the 'lil KTMs a few weeks ago. He said that he's worked on alot of 'em and HeadGasket/Base Gasket failures are all too common.
He recommended checking the sealing surfaces REALLY closely and pay close attention the hardware. Don't be afraid to replace fasteners, they often get overtorqued/overstretched. He said because the fasteners are so small... torque everything in several stages and consider CAREFULLY retorquing the fasteners 2-3 times after the first few heat cycles.
Again this is all hear-say... but it all makes perfect sense.

If its not the problem I demand the next batch of oil contaminated antifreeze..

you want the first one?
would it make sense to continually check the tourque?

I always do new washers and nuts too.. Not much $$ but feel safer on the rebuld side..

Torque after you replace the gasket. Warm it up and then re-torque after it cools down and then your fine.

looks like i'll have the new top end this week. I'll give it a whirl

Stan,
